Job Function:

 

As the Manager, Human Resources you will be a key member of the SUGOI Leadership Team. You will: Lead the organizations employee relations program and administer a wide range of human resources programs and services, with the main focus on employee relations.  
 
This position is responsible for the support to the various departmental functions.  Duties are of a complex and confidential nature, including employment, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training, policy interpretation and assigned projects.

  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Direct support to the president in all apects related to the organization and most specifically as they relate to Human Resources.
  • Strategic partner and contributing member of the Steering Committee
  • Develop and execute strategic HR plans for the evolving Sugoi team.
  • Provide support and direction to management and staff 
  • Supervise the Payroll/Benefits Administrator and Receptionist 
  • Research, develop and implement policies and procedures 
  • Ensure compliance with all legislation 
  • Identify recruitment needs; develop strategies and techniques to ensure organizational needs are met while attaining cost efficiencies
  • Develop media advertisement for recruitment and other departmental initiatives/needs
  • Initiate, manage and deliver a variety of training and development programs for management, supervisors and employees 
  • Develop and support staffing plans/programs 
  • Oversee/Direct the Health & Safety Committee and Social Committee 
  • Ensure all reference and exit interviews are completed. 
  • Provide information to potential employees regarding employment opportunities. 
  • Screen and interview applicants, shortlist for the hiring manager, produce letters of offer. 
  • Liaise with Legal Counsel to ensure Employment Law standards are met and maintained throughout the organization
  • Initiate and direct all aspects of Internship programs, Foreign Hire placements and related programs/needs
  • Provide feedback and advise to managers on how to respond to employee inquiries, regarding HR policies and procedures and personal life challenges
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR policies and procedures 
  • Provide counsel to employees on work related and personal issues as appropriate 
  • Identify and resolve potential conflict situations by providing direction to both staff and management 
  • Research and establish strategies and  guidelines related to the review process, salaries, promotion and related programs and initiatives
  • Provide career counselling to people with regards to career progression
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Human Resources Management diploma or equivalent university degree and/or combination of education and working knowledge of effective employee relations and employment laws.
  • Must have worked in a generalist human resources role for 5-7 years  
  • Must have 3 or more years previous supervisory experience 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Approachable, open communication style 
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of an organization 
  • Follow through to completion / resolution; highly organized 
  • High level of confidentiality
  • Must have a high degree of good judgment an common sense
  • Demonstrated excellence in listening skills 
  • PC desktop skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)
  • Strong conflict, mediation and intervention skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to multi task, juggle many priorities at one time 
  • Ability to speak Mandarin, Cantonese or Vietnamese will be considered an asset
  • CHRP designation or working towards CHRP designation preferred
  • Must Posses a valid permit to work in Canada

Physical Demands:

 

The person in this position will be required to work in a fast-paced office setting with frequent interruptions and with the need to deal with a great diversity of people. Work hours are standard with some shift changes as needed. Regular attendance is required.
 
There is a requirement to travel between two locations; currently both located in Vancouver.
